First Basketball Court Opens New Doors for Youth in Rubira
📅 February 2025 | 📍 Rubira Cell, Kayonza District Category: Community
Before February 2025, there was no basketball court in Rubira Cell. Not one.
Young people who wanted to play had no space, no equipment, and no opportunity. Basketball was something they watched from a distance — a sport for other communities, other schools, other children.
Ejo Youth Dignity Foundation changed that.
The construction of the first-ever basketball court in the community has opened a door that was previously closed to the youth of Rubira Cell. For the first time, children have a dedicated, purpose-built space to play, train, compete, and simply be young.
The impact goes beyond sport. The court has become a gathering point — a place where children build friendships, develop discipline, and discover talents they never knew they had. For young people who face real challenges at home and at school, having a safe space to belong is not a luxury. It is a lifeline.
In its first months of operation the court has already attracted dozens of young players. EP Umurava’s Boys Under-15 basketball team competed at sector level in the Kagame Cup — reaching second place in their very first season.
From no court to second place in one year. Imagine what comes next.
